The Palamathi hills are an extension of the Eastern Ghats which spread across the south-eastern parts of Vellore city. The verdant Palamathi hill range along with Palamathi reserve forest and Otteri lake are collectively called Palamathi hills.

A scenic, pastoral stretch of hills shrouded in clouds that would tempt anyone who wishes to spend an idyllic day in Nature, Palamathi or Balamathi hills is just the spot if you wish to spend your day spotting birds and taking in breathtaking views of the Vellore countryside.

A haven for bird watchers, Palamathi hills are home to the red-vented Bulbul, green bee-eater, myna, white-throated kingfisher, Indian roller bird and black drongo.

The Otteri Lake is an artificially-created reservoir built during the British era to supply water to the Vellore district. There is also a temple atop the hill dedicated to Lord Muruga. The place is an ideal destination that lets you soak in the charm of a quiet countryside. Trekking options are available from Vellore fort to Palamathi hills.
