Kick off your trip to Vellore at the famous Fort, constructed by the ruler Bommu Nayakar and his brother during 1526-1595 AD. Absorb the glorious tales surrounding the fort and in the meantime admire its architecture. Rectangular in shape, this fort is built entirely of giant granite cut stones. This is also a blend of religious structures and houses a temple, a mosque and a church. Once in Vellore, ensure you visit the Golden Temple at Sripuram. Spread over 100 acres of land, the temple is laced with 1500 kg gold and is quite a sight. Look closely for the intricate art work entirely done in pure gold. The sheer detail, the craftsmanship and the purity will leave you in awe. Golden foils are mounted on copper plates in various layers and the details on the temple are drawn from the vedas.
Walk around leisurely at the beautiful Amirthi Forests, known for its rich variety of flora and fauna. You get to experience the true nature of the jungle here. Half of this jungle has been converted as a tourist spot while the other half functions as a wildlife sanctuary. Take a short walk and it leads to a spectacular waterfall. Needless to say you would get some beautiful snaps here. History and science buffs can look forward to spending some good time at the Government Museum and Science Park also. Once done with sightseeing, walk your way through the bustling shopping scene in Vellore. You never run out of options, browsing through the live shopping streets like the Main Bazaar, Anna Salai, Filter Bed Road, Long Bazaar, Ida Scudder Road, Gandhi Road and Katpadi Road.
