Pazhamudhir Solai

Nestled atop a hill and surrounded by dense forest, Pazhamudhircholai attracts devouts in good numbers. It is one among the six abodes of Lord Muruga; Thiruparankundram Subramanya Swamy Temple, Palani Dandayudhapani Swami Temple, Swamimalai Swaminatha Swami Temple, Tiruchendur Senthil Andavar Temple and Tiruttani Subramanya Swamy Temple being the other abodes.

At Pazhamudir Solai, Lord Muruga is worshipped along with Goddess Valli and Deivaanai. Legend has it that Muruga tested the famous Tamil poet Avvaiyar when she rested in the shade of a tree near the temple. She had become tired after walking for long hours in the hot sun. Lord Muruga took the guise of a young boy and appeared in front of her. They then indulged in an intelligent interplay of words.

Avvaiyar was moved by the sparkling intelligence of the boy and she pleaded with the boy to reveal his true identity. It is believed that Muruga appeared before her and showered her with blessings. The tree near the temple has assumed a divine significance and people worship this tree also. Plan your trip to this famous temple in sync with the festival. Some of the popular festivals at this temple are Panguni Uthiram celebrated in March every year; Kandha Sashti-Kanta Shasti Vratam; Aadi Krithigai and Vaikasi Visakam are some of the famous festivals celebrated here.
