Yercaud

Take a deep breathe of fresh sweet smelling air and slowly let it out in a deep aaaah. That’s how cool and relaxing a holiday at Yercaud can be. A lovely emerald green town with a gentle, serene lake set amidst thickly wooded slopes plays host to the cool breeze that rushes through the thickets.  Yercaud, is the jewel of the Sheveroyan hills, on the Eastern Ghats. It sits on one of the most ancient mountains on Earth, and the incredible rock formations, carved by the wind over the millennia bear witness to that!

First take a little jaunt and enter fragrant paradises filled with red roses, the unique Pitcher Plant  and colourful flowers and  Japanese horticulture gardens. Further on, discover lush orchards hang heavy with Bananas, Pears, Oranges, Jackfruit and spicy pepper. The decadent berries of coffee plantations dot many slopes.

A little trek into the woods will take you to the lovely Killiyur Falls that plunge into a 3000 feet ravine. Come a little further for a glimpse of Bison, deer, hares, and foxes, oh and watch out for a flash of the spectacular Indian Bird of Paradise. Vantage points include Arthur’s Seat, Lady’s Seat, and the Pagoda Point, where nature has piled four massive piles of rock one upon another to make it look like a pyramid!

The Servarayon temple on top of the Servarayon hill is a narrow cave temple that also offers a spectacular view of the valley below. In the month of May this temple plays host to colourful tribes  who gather to pay respects to their Lord, Servarayon and Goddess Kaveri.
