Take a deep breathe of fresh sweet smelling air and slowly let it out in a deep aaaah. That’s how cool and relaxing a holiday at Yercaud can be. A lovely emerald green town with a gentle, serene lake set amidst thickly wooded slopes plays host to the cool breeze that rushes through the thickets. Yercaud, is the jewel of the Sheveroyan hills, on the Eastern Ghats. It sits on one of the most ancient mountains on Earth, and the incredible rock formations, carved by the wind over the millennia bear witness to that!
First take a little jaunt and enter fragrant paradises filled with red roses, the unique Pitcher Plant and colourful flowers and Japanese horticulture gardens. Further on, discover lush orchards hang heavy with Bananas, Pears, Oranges, Jackfruit and spicy pepper. The decadent berries of coffee plantations dot many slopes.
A little trek into the woods will take you to the lovely Killiyur Falls that plunge into a 3000 feet ravine. Come a little further for a glimpse of Bison, deer, hares, and foxes, oh and watch out for a flash of the spectacular Indian Bird of Paradise. Vantage points include Arthur’s Seat, Lady’s Seat, and the Pagoda Point, where nature has piled four massive piles of rock one upon another to make it look like a pyramid!
The Servarayon temple on top of the Servarayon hill is a narrow cave temple that also offers a spectacular view of the valley below. In the month of May this temple plays host to colourful tribes who gather to pay respects to their Lord, Servarayon and Goddess Kaveri.
Yercaud has a ‘Silk World’ where you can see how silk is obtained and spun into splendor. 3D viewing, augmented reality and virtual reality presentations will weave a silken spell on you.
One of the world’s the tallest Hanuman statue is nearby at Namakkal as is the famous Tiruchengodu temple where Lord Shiva is worshipped in his Ardhanari form.
Then come back and gently paddle into a romantic sunset at the beautiful lake, with the tall trees waving to you. Aaah a holiday at its most relaxed, it’s happily possible at Yercaud.
Yercaud Lake is the first attraction for a Tourist. It is a picturesque water body surrounded by gardens and well wooded area. Boating in the cold water of the lake is enchanting as well as refreshing.
The Anna Park : Maintained by the Horticultural Department, is located near the Lake. It houses a variety collection of many species of plants found around Shevaroys Hills. Annual Flower show is the summer attraction during the month of May every year. Exclusive Japanese Park enclosure that finds the Bonsai collections, the Japanese style of Horticulture, is an added attraction to this Park.
Lady’s Seat : It overlooks the serpentine ghat road and provides a breath taking view. The tourists are gifted to have a panoramic view of the plains below and Mettur Dam on the Cauvery river, through the Telescope mounted at the Lady’s seat watch tower.
Pagoda Point : Located on Eastern part of Yercaud, on the 5th Km from the Yercaud Lake. The local tribes had built an arrangement of rocks in four Piles that looked like a pyramid. This made the place to be also called as Pyramid Point.
Killiyur Falls : This 3000 ft water falls is just 3Km away from the Yercaud Lake. Best suited to be visited after the Monsoon seasons.
The Servaroyan Temple : It is situated on the flat top of the Servaroyan Hill. It is a narrow cave temple dedicated to Lord Shervaroyan and Goddess Kaveri. As it is believed that the temple cave bottom touches river Kavery. Goddess Kaveri is worshipped as the presiding deity by all the villagers in and around this region. The Tribals gather here in thousands to celebrate their Annual Festival in the month of May every Year.
The Montfort School : The Montfort School for boys & girls and Sacred Heart convent for Girls are the two famous Educational Institutions in Yercaud imparting education. The Alumini of these schools include many notable personalities.
Seri-Tourism Centre “Silk World”
Seri-Tourism center “Silk World” is established in Government Silk farm, Yercaud, between the Rose Garden and the View point called “Lady’s Seat” in Yercaud. In this centre all activities of Sericulture viz., Mulberry Cultivation, Silkworm Rearing, Silk Reeling, Silk Twisting and Silk Weaving are exhibited in order to explain the processes of Silk production.
