What’s special about this 200-acre sanctuary is that it has a large lake but there are no forests surrounding it. However, in spite of such lack of green cover the birds turn up in large numbers. A survey by the Forest Department showed a massive 33,000 birds of all shapes and sizes. The lake has abundant fish and aquatic life. The cormorants, teals, pin tailed ducks, pelicans and darters begin to arrive at the onset of the north east monsoon.
