The Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1989 and is spread over 480 sq. kms. In addition to giant squirrels, it is the haunt of the Bengal tiger, bonnet macaque, common langur, elephants, flying squirrels, gaur, leopards, mouse deer, nilgiri langur, nilgiri tahr, palm civets, porcupines, slender loris, sloth bears, will boar and wild cats. The area is diverse in its flora and fauna. Over 275 varieties of birds have been spotted here of which 14 are specific to the Western Ghats. The sanctuary also has numerous reptiles including king cobras, Indian rock pythons, pit vipers and ornate flying snakes.
