TTDC / Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park

Spread across a 560 km stretch between Rameswaram and Tuticorin, this biosphere covers an area of around 10,500 sq kms. Comprising 21 islands with estuaries, mudflats, beaches and forests, it has the richest marine biodiversity with algae communities, sea grasses, coral reefs, salt marshes and mangroves. Among its 3600 plant and animal species, it has the globally endangered species of sea cow [Dugong] and six mangrove species. Public access into the park is limited to glass bottom boat rides at Mandapam.
