Discover Gupthagiri Fort, a 15th-century marvel built by the Vijayanagara Empire and fortified by the British with 12 impressive walls. This iconic fort, located in the scenic Kongu Nadu region, served as a vital military outpost for Tipu Sultan and the British army. Because of its strategic location and only one accessible side due to steep terrain, the fort was impregnable.
Explore the fascinating cemeteries, granary, two masjids, two Varadhraja Perumal temples, and old British Army administrative buildings, all of which provide insight into the region's rich history. Don't miss the eerie death well, which adds another layer of mystery to this incredible attraction.
The shrine houses many historical relics from Tipu Sultan and Dheeran Chinnamalai. Weapons, jewellery, and other artefacts associated with these two legendary warriors who once conquered the fort can be seen by visitors. The Fort was beyond repair because it had been used by numerous kings and invaders over the years. One of the last people to build a temple here was a member of the Chettiar dynasty who believed the area around the sanctum sanatorium was cursed. The fort is open to visitors from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The entry fee for Indians is Rs.25 INR and Rs.300 INR for foreigners.
