One has to thank the two former civil servants of the Madras Government who had a chance discovery of this beautiful place while they were pursuing outlaws. They found the chilly climate similar to that of Europe. Blessed with green meadows, lavish spread of plantations, Kotagiri is the ideal spot to spend some leisurely time. Take a walk along the plantations, drop in at the tea factories for a tea tasting session and pack home some of the best tea powder you will come across.
Head to Catherine falls, Elk falls, Doddabetta range and Rangaswami pillar in and around the place. Take in the magnificent view of the mist-cloaked hills and valleys. The fact that it is less explored makes it a place of unspoilt beauty. For the trekkers, take the famous trails ; St. Catherine Falls trail, the Kotagiri–Kodanad trail and the Kotagiri–Longwood Shola trail. Situated at a height of 1793 metres above sea level, Kotagiri is famed for the multiple options it offers for trekking expeditions. Even for others, it has options to spend quiet, relaxing time here and the well connected network of roads makes it easily accessible.
