The sprawling beauty of mangroves at Pichavaram is something that can't be missed. Regarded as one of the largest mangrove forests in the world, it is located between the Vellar estuary and the Coleroon estuary. It also offers ample scope for water sports like rowing, kayaking and canoeing. The temples are known for their brilliant inscriptions and magnificent festivals. The walls inside the Vridhachalam temple have 72 dance postures as sculptures. Samiyarpettai is one of the largest coastal villages in the area. Over the years it has become a lovely tourist destination on the Indian East coast. Veeranam lake is another major tourist attraction in Cuddalore. It is believed to have been made in the 10th century during the reign of the Cholas. It is fed by Kollidam via Vadavaru river.
